The APD was established in 1903 and operates with over 220 members on staff, including sworn police officers, civilian employees, dispatchers, and others. The current chief of police is Eric Parra.

The Alhambra Courthouse is a branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The courthouse has jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters, including felonies and family law cases. It also handles probate issues in which an estate or property worth $150,000 or less comes into question.

The City Hall houses the city’s administrative offices; a council chamber for Alhambra City Council meetings; meeting rooms available for use by community groups or organizations on an hourly basis; two large multipurpose halls that can be rented out daily at reasonable rates for events such as receptions, lectures, concerts, and banquets. There is also a small theater located within the facility, which seats about 60 people.
